Spain Weather
Spain experiences a range of different climates
in different regions of the country: Continental, Mediterranean
and Oceanic, as well as the rather unique subtropical
climate of the Canary Islands.
- Inland areas of the Iberian peninsula, including the capital,
Madrid, experience a continental climate.
- South and eastern coastal regions including the cities of
Barcelona and Valencia,
as well as the Balearic Islands, experience a Mediterranean climate.
- Galicia and those parts of northern Spain
which border the Bay of Biscay, experience an Oceanic climate.
- The Canary Islands experience a climate that has been described as
"eternal spring", with warm temperatures all year round, with
average temperatures
varying between 18°C (64°F) and 24°C (75°F).
The amount of rainfall received varies greatly between the islands,
Gran Canaria, La Palma and Tenerife regularly experience some tropical
rains, wheras Fuerteventura and Lanzarote are much drier. Additionally,
it should be noted that there there are high volcanos and mountains on
the islands, and the name Tenerife means "white mountain"
in reference to the snow seen on top of El Teide.
